What is a Blessingway?

A Blessingway is a ritual from the Native American tradition.
It is a simple gathering of women to honor and support a woman when she is facing a major transition in her life, like beginning her menses, being pregnant or reaching the wise woman years.

Becoming a Woman

When a girl reaches menses, there are many changes, not just the onset of her Moon Blood. Her whole self-image is being reformed. A simple ritual to mark her passage, prepares the blossoming maiden for the challenges of the journey ahead and lets her know she is well supported on her journey into womanhood.

Becoming a Mother

When a child is born, the mother is reborn. Many new changes occur in her body, mind, and lifestyle when she enters into the world of motherhood. Her life also changes as the number of children grows as well. She deserves to be honored by her circle of women. She also needs their companionship and support at this sacred time. A Blessingway is an opportunity to face those changes, acknowledge them and prepare body, mind and soul for the passing of the maiden and the birth of the Mother.
